Biarez's life-long work consisted of explaining the elementary mechanisms governing soil constituents in order to enhance understanding of the underlying scientific laws which control the behavior of constructible sites and to incorporate these scientific advancements into engineering practices.
He innovated a multiscale approach of passing from the discontinuous medium formed by individual grains to an equivalent continuous medium. The first part of the book examines the behavior of soils at the level of their different constituents and at the level of their interaction. Behavior is then treated at the scale of the soil sample.
The second part deals with soil mechanics from the vantage point of the construction project. It highlights Biarez's insightful adoption of the Finite Element Codes and illustrates, through numerous construction examples, his methodology and approach based on the general framework he constructed for soil behavior, constantly enriched by comparing in situ measurements with calculated responses of geostructures.

About the Author
I'm Dave, never David. I'm a Customer Service Assistant at the Co-operative and was once in training to become an Estate Agent. We don't talk about that. I've been writing for most of my life, from blogs about my dog and my son, to long-winded Facebook statuses, to half-finished novels, but Dragons is truly my life's work, so it's fitting that it is the first one that I bring to publication. Nine years in the writing, I've lost it completely to a virus, rewritten it, lost it again to a cup of coffee spilled on a laptop, had it magically retrieved, decided that I hated it while editing, and rewritten it again from scratch. Don't worry, I've finally learned how to back it up, and Book Two should come along much sooner than nine years from now. In the future you can expect several more Dragons of Lovana novels from me, a number of other books in the Fantasy genre, and my name to appear as Editor on a few more. I've immersed myself in Fantasy, and I'm here to stay.

Great first book by a new author! It starts of a tad rough "feeling", but soon the author hits his stride and the story takes off. When I reached the end, I wanted to shake the author until the next book was in my hand! (Or kindle app, actually...)

About the Author
Michael Hines is a retired professor of Church History. He currently teaches online for Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan, Kansas. He taught in the face-to-classroom for more than 30 years on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Hines earned an M.Div. degree from Cincinnati Christian Seminary. He has additional work in history at the University of Colorado (Boulder), the University of Cincinnati, and Boise State University. Previous works include a biography and a history of the American Restoration Movement.
